Open Test 2.0
Open Test 2.0 is an innovative framework developed under the Tech4You Program (NRRP) that revolutionizes software community testing. Created by a partnership of excellence (Wish Srl, Dinamica Media Srl, Besidetech Srl, Whitesock Srl, and the University of Messina), the project applies the principles of Value-Sensitive Design, Design Thinking, and Gamification to drive social innovation through the direct engagement of “super user” communities.
The project has achieved 100% completion and reached TRL 7 (prototype platform), validating 5 use cases with 38 qualified testers. The platform is ready to serve as a benchmark standard for collaborative software quality assessment, featuring a robust architecture, secure REST APIs (SPID/CIE, OAuth2), and full cross-device accessibility.

Within the project, Whitesock played a decisive role by providing specialized expertise in the fields of gamification and user experience design. Whitesock’s contribution focused on maximizing retention and engagement through the integration of gamification techniques, the application of behavioral heuristics (goal-gradient effect, unpredictable rewards, endowment effect), and the enhancement of game aesthetics (challenge, mastery, fellowship, expression).
The system developed and implemented involved defining experience levels, generic and thematic challenges to highlight skills and specializations, modular badges tailored to various potential scenarios, and interaction sets.
